Extremely flattered to be included in the recent Saatchi Blog 'Art We Love' A Few Painting Techniques Artists Use Explained.
It's been a funny year for me. I basically took most of my work offline. I have been very busy designing a series of fabrics and related products; carrying on the great tradition of artists such as William Morris, Sonia Delaunay and Yayoi Kusama with a bit of Beryl Cook thrown in for good measure. Having lots of fun; the patterns and fabric designs have been an all consuming distraction. There are many more ideas in the pipeline.
Through all of this I completely forgot about the 'serious' side of my work. With this artwork, I have completed a commemorative digital painting, left unfinished for ages. I am now happy with the result.
Continuing my experimentation with new digital media and painting. The artwork is painted with a digital brush which can achieve effects impossible by traditional means. I am calling this my 'Fizzy POP' series.
This particular artwork uses a brush 'loaded' with paint spots where the parameters (chosen by the artist) are altered to create different splatter effects. All the spots are perfectly symmetrical but are painted in such a way as to give the impression of depth or perspective. Please check out the close-up images to give a better idea of the complexity of the compositions.
