Cultural Icon: Marilyn* Portrait set against an abstract, geometric and floral American Flag (Digital Collage, Painting & Photo Composite)
Part of the 'Sugar DADA' Series...
I was completely blown away by my recent visit to the Alhambra in Andalusia, Spain. I have been working on a series of fabric designs and patterns inspired by this experience. This particular artwork is a re-working of an earlier piece with an abstracted American Flag made from photographs and compositions of the flowers and plants from amazing gardens of the Alhambra grounds. I have also used images and photographs taken of the amazing geometric designs, patterns and tiles.
The photographic montage has then been digitally composited and overpainted using several different types of new media digital paint brushes and displacement effects.
A little bit Rauschenberg, a bit of Pollock, Jasper Johns, Warhol and Jan Brueghel (The Elder) with a modern, New Media, Sugar Dada, Pop Art twist.
