Matthew R Lewis, Fine Art Print, Giclee on Hahnemuhle Limited Edition of 100
In his portrait "Boy With Syringe, Lemon and Spoon" Lewis creates a picture that is both intimate and raw. A fiery angel, posed with the phraseology of a religious Renaissance painting, the boy is shirtless and holding the instruments of heroin use. Part martyr, part devil, the photographed man is both erotic and distancing. Subtle, suggestive and entirely unsentimental, the image is absolutely arresting whilst being absorbed within itself. This sense of menace and melancholy is found throughout Lewis' work, albeit in a rather diffuse manner. His work for the style magazine i-D is a riot of the unexpected and unsanitised."
